The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease.
April 15th, 2011 at Greene Stadium located on Howard University’s Campus, people will camp out and take turns walking or running around a track or path. There will be food friends, and entertainment, and an opportunity to perform community service while also having fun! Anyone can participate in Relay For Life so feel free to invite your friends!
Relay For Life is especially important to me being that I am personally a Cancer survivor of 9 years! At the age of 12 I was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, a rare form of childhood cancer that, until my diagnosis, had only been discovered in children ages 4 or younger. Of those children, the survival rate was slim to none, so Doctor’s were unsure of the success the treatments would provide for me in curing the disease from my body. After several rounds of chemotherapy, radiation therapy, as well as two major operations – one resulting in the removal of my left kidney – I was pronounced cured!
The cost of registration is $10 which is paid online at the time of registration, which is automatically placed in the team’s fundraising account. This money goes towards our fundraising goal and will be donated to the American Cancer Society in order to make advancements in Cancer research and improving the lives of those who are currently battling Cancer personally or someone in their family. After registering, you can obtain additional donations or sponsors to continue to raise funds and awareness of our mission if you choose to do so.
